Looking for a
chance to connect with others, explore your faith, and
find new opportunities to experience God in your
life? Children’s encounters will begin the year by
exploring the idea of encountering God through feelings,
relationships and prayer. Adult encounters kicks off
with an exploration of Celtic spirituality.

September 18 - CROP Hunger Walk
At 9:30 AM on
Saturday, September 18, members of several community
churches will gather at Holy Name Church (2448 Auburn
Avenue – two short blocks from MAPC) to participate in
the 2010 CROP Walk. This year’s theme is taken from II
Corinthians 8: 13- 15: Enough for All. The CROP Hunger
Walk is a fun way to raise funds to alleviate hunger at
home and around the world. There are 854 million people
who go to bed hungry every night. Many are children;
some are our neighbors. 25% of the money raised will
support local agencies such as the St. Francis St.
George food pantry.
What’s the point
of walking? Hungry people in developing nations
typically walk as much as six miles a pay to get food,
water, and fuel, and to take their goods to market. We
walk to be in solidarity with their struggle for
existence. We walk because they walk! And it's fun! Our
walk covers a 3-mile course along McMillan Avenue with
one small refreshment break. It is a family event! Bring
the strollers! Leash the dog!
Holy Name has a
cookout at the end of the walk! See Linda Ford at coffee
hour to join in the effort. She will have the literature
you will need to learn more. If you are not up to a
three-mile walk, you can be a sponsor of other MAPC
walkers. Linda can also be contacted. MAPC raised over
$800 during last year’s walk. Wouldn’t it be fun to top
$1000 this year?
Did you know that
you can “Walk on the Web”? Step-by-step instructions for
raising funds online are found at
www.cropwalkonline.org. Reuben Blair did this last
year with great success!
